3 Card Poker - 2 Card Games
3 Card Poker is a poker game which is very common in casinos. 3 Card Poker is one of the most popular poker variations played online. In fact, 3 card poker actually refers to two very different card games although both can be played simultaneously with the same hand. The two card games are known as "Pairplus" and "Ante and play". Pairplus is a simple and straight forward no strategy game of luck and Ante and play is a game where the player tries to beat the dealer's hand. Since both versions are casino card games there exists a clear statistical advantage to the dealer. This advantage serves to guarantee that the casino profits in the long run.
The Rules of 3 Card Poker
The rules of Pairplus are very straight forward. The player draws three cards. If he gets a pair or better, he wins otherwise he loses. The amount won is dependent on how good a hand was drawn. The better the 3 card poker hand that the player gets, the higher the payout. Precise payout sums may differ from casino to casino, nonetheless, it is fairly standard to find that a pair pays out 1 to 1 and the best hand in 3 card poker, the straight flush, usually wins a payout of about 40 to 1. Ante and play, on the other hand is played against a dealer. In order to begin card games of ante and play 3 card poker, the player must first place an ante bet. After this initial bet, the cards are dealt. The player can then choose to add an additional bet of equal value to the ante and "play" or he can fold and forfeit the ante bet. If the player opts to play, the dealer exposes his hand. There are now several possible outcomes. If the dealer's hand does not "qualify" (the dealer doesn't have a hand with a queen high or better) the player wins only the ante bet and his play bet is returned. If the dealer qualifies but the player's hand is superior, the player wins both the play and ante bets. If the dealer's hand is superior, it is the player who looses both bets. If the result is a tie, different house rules govern the results which may be anything from the player winning even money to the entire wager being simply returned. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, both games can be played simultaneously on the same hand and indeed for many players this is the preferred style of play.
Strategies for 3 Card Poker
Like most poker-like card games, 3 card poker has strategies which can improve play outcome to a certain extent. As previously explained, the Pairplus game of 3 card poker is a game where there is absolutely no room for strategy of any sort since there is no choice for the player to make beyond the choice of initiating a game. Ante and play - 3 card poker does have room for a player choice and thus a certain measure of strategy. As the simplicity of the game suggests, though, the basic strategy is also quite simple and straight forward. The basic rule of thumb is that a player should choose to play on a trio of a queen six and four or better. Any 3 card poker hand which is worse than that should not be played.
