Board Games for Party Entertainment for All Ages

Board games are any games played on a board. They are usually games of strategy played by moving pieces or objects around on a board. Many board games, such as Chess, Checkers or Backgammon can only be played with two people, but there are also plenty of board games that accommodate multiple players.

Playing Board Games at Parties

Whereas many party games of skill can be noisy and boisterous, board games tend to create a quiet party atmosphere. The reason for this is that they generally require thoughtful strategy before moving.

Chess Parties

Many years ago, I was part of a group of Chess players. We were six couples and we would get together specifically for Chess parties. Because Chess requires quite a lot of thought before each move, these parties were relatively quiet. They only got a bit noisy if someone was terribly upset when he or she lost. Then, of course, when we stopped for refreshments there was plenty of talk, gossip and reruns of play moves.

Board Games for All Ages

Games like Monopoly, Parcheesi, and Chutes and Ladders are board games that appeal to all ages and have multiple players. Chutes and Ladders can even be played by four-year olds. They are fun games requiring throwing dice and moving pawns or objects. They do not require strategy since the moves are controlled by the numbers on the dice, and the resulting action is determined by where the pawn or object lands. Games like these can be played on a table or on the floor and, therefore, their party entertainment value is much higher than the more staid and conservative games of Chess or Checkers which require a table for play and only two players.

Party Interaction through Board Games

A party planned for children and adults together could contain several of these games with the players rotating from one game to the next whenever there is a winner at a specific game. Monopoly might present a problem in this context since it is a much longer game and might take a long time for someone to win. However, the excitement engendered by the interaction and exchange of monies and properties goes a long way to making a good party.
