What is a Trivia Party?
A trivia themed party is a party where the central attraction is a trivia game. Generally there are two ways of going about such a game. The first option is where all the people at the party are contestants (this is appropriate for particularly small groups). In larger groups this can be achieved by dividing everyone into teams (usually no more than three or four). The second option is by having some party participants singled out as contestants with the rest being the crowd. Either way, such a trivia party can be loads of fun and easily provide an entertaining evening party of anywhere between an hour to several hours (depending on the game and time constraints)
Trivia Questions
Trivia Questions can easily be selected to include fascinating facts and general knowledge that won't place any one of the partygoers at a distinct advantage (such an occurrence may be unpleasant for everyone else and so should be avoided). It is possible to provide for some measure of equality by defining subjects of trivia questions and either letting participants choose between the subjects or matching the subjects between contestants.
Playing Trivia Games
The actual way the trivia game is played should be planned beforehand. Whether people are allowed to suggest answers or whether the contestants take turns are all things that can change the game dramatically. Such variations can easily make every trivia game a completely different experience although all are probably equally fun. A possibility worth considering is having your game modeled after a popular trivia game show. In that case, there is usually a host who is not part of the game (it is probably best if this is the party host or else this role is pre-assigned so that the person gets the opportunity to prepare). The game host should strive to imitate the original game show host as much as possible. If his is done well, it can add considerably to the fun of the game. Such imitation can at times provide guidelines as to how questions are posed and what is needed in order to solve them.
